Community Outreach
The Community Outreach team of the Pediatric Dermatology Student-Run Collaborative is dedicated to providing educational and outreach programs for underserved communities in the Greater Boston area.
We host monthly educational events at Horizons for Homeless Children in Roxbury, an affiliate daycare of Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, focusing on educating children and their families about common pediatric dermatology conditions. Our sessions have covered a range of topics including atopic dermatitis, scabies, warts, molluscum, diaper rash, sun protection, and tick bites/Lyme disease.

During these events, we engage parents with information on common conditions and involve children in activities or games related to each topic. We also distribute informational handouts in multiple languages—English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian-Creole—to meet the linguistic needs of most families, and provide free skin care sample kits.

Beyond our work at Horizons for Homeless Children, our outreach extends to additional venues such as the annual camper education program on sun safety at the Sportsmen’s Tennis & Enrichment Center in Dorchester, and through pipeline programs with the MGH Youth Scholars program and the Port Cambridge Art Center.
Our mission is to bridge gaps in access to and knowledge of dermatologic care, focusing on education and advocacy to serve these communities effectively.
